Once the Bachelor of Science degree is completed, it is on to medical school. Medical school lasts four years. After medical school then itð€™s on to residency, which usually lasts six to eight years, specializing in cardiology. Lastly, there is required a three year program of internal medicine and an additional three additional years in cardiology. Once all of this is completed, a licensing exam is given, so that the physician can then practice medicine.

The daily responsibilities of a cardiologist are comprehensive and challenging. Here is a list of some of those responsibilities:

ÂÙ Study diagnostic images to help make a diagnosis.

ÂÙ Examine patients; checking for symptoms of heart problems, with the use of medical instruments

ÂÙ Prescribe needed medications and recommend physical and dietary changes

ÂÙ Treat diseases of the heart

ÂÙ Perform surgery; specifically the implantation of pacemakers and other heart-related devices.

ÂÙ Perform research and necessary administrative work.

Cardiologists work in hospitals, universities, private clinics and intensive care units. In addition, some cardiologists work intensively in research offices; seeking new ways to treat heart disease and working hard to improve and create new pacemakers and other life-saving innovations.

The future looks bright for those in the cardiology field, for these jobs give good pay and great benefits and is a career that is continually progressing. This kind of job will always be necessary, for there will always be people in need. Currently and in the future, the prospect for continued work in this area, shines bright.
