How to Write an Effective Job Ad

1. Purpose: Remember, the ultimate purpose of an ad is to get the phones ringing and resumes coming through the door, so write the ad as if you wanted the job. If you wouldnň€™t apply, the chances are no one else will either. 2. Attention: What would grab your attention? What would get you excited? Keep your headlines punchy and direct. Sometimes the main benefit of the job can make the best headline. 3. Interest: Think of things that would stimulate your interest in a job. Benefits, benefits, benefitsň€¦ people move jobs for more money and more benefits, so tell us what your job offers that the others donň€™t. If youň€™ve got something that the others donň€™t then tell us about it ň€“ sell it. 4. Desire: What would give you the desire to find out more about a job? Write it so you canň€™t move on without finding out moreň€¦ 5. Action: What would inspire you to act and apply for the job? Be exact on what you want people to do - click here, call directly, send an email? Be clear, be precise and call for action! Create a sense of urgency about the job. ň€śDonň€™t miss out. Jobspeedň€™s hints: 1. Keep your eyes peeled for examples of good headlines ads wherever you see them. They may help you write your next ad. 2. What is it about the ad that makes you sit up and take notice and why? 3. Look at mail and newspapers and start your own clip file. Know what your competition is offering and do it better. 4. Do your homework, what sort of person are you really looking for here? 5. What are you offering this person? Is it relevant? 6. Who are you trying to target? 7. Relate to the people you are targeting. 8. Get inside their heads. Think like them. 9. Focus on benefits, not features. There is a BIG difference! Features describe your job; benefits outline whatň€™s in it for them. Benefits are great for writing headlines and titles 10. Donň€™t give away to much information or the applicant has no reason to call. 11. Avoid overusing capital letters. THEY MAY GRAB ATTENTION BUT TOO MANY WILL MAKE THE AD UNREADABLE. 12. Spelling and grammar are not an afterthought. Remember, capture your readers ATTENTION, stimulate their INTEREST, create the DESIRE to proceed and inspire them to take ACTION and you have an ad that gets a whole lot of attention.

Happy selling, from Jobspeed.
