It was announced today that the decision about the future of the Food Standards Agency has still not been made. This poses a problem for many Chefs, restaurant owners and hospitality industry professionals. This is because they are still unsure about what action they should take regarding certain issues. For example, whether they have to display the number of calories on menu"s.

Restaurant Sales on the increase.
Thanks to the brilliant sunny weather in recent weeks, restaurants and pubs have seen a rise in sales. The results are from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker and they have highlighted an increase of 1.4% in like for like sales.

World cup has a varied affect on the hospitality industry.
Understandably, pubs have seen a significant increase in sales and customers. However, because people have either stayed at home or gone to a pub to watch the football, restaurants have suffered. This is because many of the evening football games were during peak meal times.

Great News for healthy Britain
It has recently been announced that five large high street restaurant chains have signed up to this initiative by the Food Standards Agency. The total number of restaurants that have signed up to the scheme is around 2,000. So what does this mean? Some of the things that participating restaurants will have to do include, reducing salt levels, using lower fat ingredients and provide accurate nutritional information.

Coeliac UK launches Gluten-free Chef of the Year Competition.
The charity is asking for top Gluten-free Chefs to come up with some creative ideas for a three course gluten-free meal. Coeliac UK spend a great deal of time and effort trying to get more gluten free dishes onto UK menus. The competition will be judged by celebrity chef Phil Vickery.
